When I think of James’ story, Galatians 6:9 (NIV) comes to mind:
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
One of the things that James has shared with us at the Mission, is how he learned the importance of continual kindness and patience. James understands that the people you help may not be ready for change immediately. But in God’s timing, one day they may be. “If you keep on helping, that light will shine,” James says. “It took me 34 years before I decided that I really wanted to work on myself and change.” But now that the change has taken root, James is a whole new person.
It doesn’t matter how long it takes. What matters is the outcome. We can’t give up on those in need. And the holiday season offers the perfect opportunity to reach out to our hungry and out to our hungry and homeless neighbors. They need us. They need nutritious food. And most of all, they need the light and hope of Jesus. If you feel led, you can pray for the homeless people you pass on the street, stop and tell them about the Mission, provide Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, or simply make homelessness part of your regular conversation with family, friends and colleagues.
The important thing is to never give up and keep pressing forward. Take the opportunities God gives you to love and serve those in need. This holiday season opportunities are all around you. If you’d like help finding a way to get involved, let me know.

  1. We could use helpers on the third Thursday each month @ the Redwood Gospel Mission.

Please contact John Theilade or myself as we seek to minister at the mission in God’s word, in song, and in helping serve dinner.

And please be praying for this ministry.

    Thanks!
