All Hail the Power of Jesus Name by Edward Perronet, 1780.
1. All hail the power of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all!
4. Oh, that with all the sacred throng
we at his feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song
and crown him Lord of all.
We’ll join the everlasting song
and crown him Lord of all.
Observe: A diadem is an ornamental headband worn as a badge of royalty. Perronet’s lyric reminds us of Daniel’s vision of the crowning of Jesus, our Lord, and King.
I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. (Daniel 7:13–14). In times of uncertainty, our confidence comes from knowing that the perfect obedience of Jesus in his life and death allowed the Father to justly raise him from death, and seat him in the position of authority in heaven. Daniel’s vision is our present reality. The royal diadem has been brought forth and placed on Jesus, the Lord of all. The fourth verse describes our peace. Knowing that even today, we sing his praises with the redeemed, gives us a peace that transcends the concerns of this world (Philippians 4:7).
Isaiah writes. “The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.” (Isaiah 62:2–3).
His new name is Kyrios, Lord of all. It is the name above all names, and all creation bows before him. So sing today! Sing because you know his dominion is everlasting, his righteousness is perfect, and his kingdom, into which you have been placed, is forever.
I hope you had a good Lord’s Day yesterday and I look forward to the time we can meet together again.
Blessings,
Pastor Don
